In my experience with using digital writing websites, I definitely have a preference. I think that Google (Docs, Sheets, etc...) is way easier than Microsoft Word. MW has always caused issues for me in the past with forgetting to save and losing all my work. I also prefer Google Docs because it can link through all my devices on an app on my phone. I can download my documents on my iPad and import them to Notability, an app that lets me take notes/ annotate documents.
After reading the ISTE Standards for Educators, the standards that is most meaningful to me is "Learner". This is because as a teacher, you are learning just like your students. You have to learn from them like what teaching methods/ styles work for them as well as more about their personalities so you can adjust how the class is run. You also have to constantly learn what is popular in society so you can use that to connect with your students on activities.
Before today's class, I had never heard the term "Digital Native". However, after learning more about what it is, I do believe that today's youth can be described that way. Everywhere you go, young children are glued to technology. It has gone so far that even restaurants, such as Chili's and Olive Garden, have tablets on every table where kids can play games. I feel like technology has helped us grow and has made learning a lot more efficient from those in high school or college. For those in elementary or middle school, I feel technology has limited and negatively impacted their social development and functionality. In the future when I am a teacher, I will incorporate technology but only when necessary. Some of y favorite memories of things I di in school growing up involved activities where we were up in groups making things with our hand and minds, not just a laptop and google creating things for us.
Hey Fallon! I totally agree that this younger generation are digital natives! I think its so weird how restaurants have ipad for kids to be one, the whole point of going out to dinner is to spend time with you family!
